Mr. Jacinto Gutierrez Tino Obituary

Jacinto Gutierrez Tino, of Sumter, South Carolina, passed away on December 18, 2025, at approximately 7:00–7:30 p.m. at a hospital in Columbia, South Carolina, at the age of 69. Jacinto was born on October 17, 1956, in Zacualpa, Quiché, Guatemala, to his mother, Sebestiana Tino. His father is unknown.

Jacinto was a loving and hardworking man who came to the United States to earn money to support his family. He lived in the U.S. for 22 years and had planned to return to Guatemala in 2025 to visit his homeland and reunite with his beloved wife. Unfortunately, that dream was never fulfilled.

Jacinto loved his family deeply, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed giving them advice and always wanted his family to achieve great things in life. Jacinto never really had a car, he either walked or biked everywhere, including to work, the laundromat, friends’ homes, and nearby stores. He remained loyal to his job for 17 years and lived in the same apartment for 20 years.

He found joy in simple things, such as planting small chili plants and caring for chickens, though apartment living limited his ability to do so. Jacinto was friendly and kind to everyone he met. Even without knowing English, he would greet people warmly with his favorite phrase, “Hi, my friend!” He was well known in his Sumter neighborhood, lovingly referred to by many Hispanics as “el barrio de Guatemala.”

Jacinto cherished spending time with his family. They often took him out to eat and on walks together. He was also a vegetarian.

Jacinto was the proud father of eight children. Four in the United States (three daughters and one son) and four in Guatemala (three sons and one daughter).

He is survived by his wife, Maria Gutierrez Delacruz; his children, Celso Gutierrez, Dominga Gutierrez, Ana Gutierrez, and Marta Gutierrez; and his grandchildren, Estela Gutierrez (and her two children), Leticia Gutierrez, Yesenia Delacruz, Luiz Delacruz, Jennifer Delacruz, Francisco Delacruz, Keily Gutierrez, Axel Ajqui, Christopher Gutierrez, and Esmeralda Gutierrez, along with many other children and family members in Guatemala.

Jacinto was preceded in death by his mother, Sebestiana Tino. His father and siblings also preceded him in death.
