Mr. Charles Thomas Obituary

Charles Edward Thomas was born on February 23, 1941, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, to the late Leroy Thomas, Sr., and the late Leverta Wade Thomas. He peacefully transitioned from this life on December 10, 2025.

Charles was raised in Orangeburg and graduated from Wilkinson High School. He later answered the call to serve his country, honorably serving in the United States Air Force—a commitment he embraced with pride and discipline. Throughout his life, Charles carried himself with the quiet strength and integrity of a military man, never wavering from those values. He furthered his education at Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College, earning two associate degrees: one in Criminal Justice and one in Business Administration.

Charles devoted many years of faithful service to Greenwood Mills, where he worked as a Supervisor. He later continued his professional journey as an Insurance Agent and as a delivery and transport driver for Senior Caterer Company, serving until his retirement.

Soft-spoken by nature, Charles allowed his character to speak volumes. He found joy in life’s simplest yet most meaningful blessings. He cherished raising his children, studying the Bible, and spending countless hours in conversation with his siblings—moments often filled with laughter, and treasured memories. A devoted and supportive father, Charles always placed his family at the center of his world.

A man of steadfast faith, Charles was a member of Williams Chapel AME Church in Orangeburg, South Carolina. His spiritual walk was further nurtured under the leadership of Apostle Helen Smith and the Cainhoy / Eutawville Miracle Revival Ministry in Huger and Eutawville, South Carolina. His life leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, kindness, humility, and quiet strength.

Charles leaves to cherish his loving memory his children: Raymond (Kim) Mitchell, Denita (Gordon) Ford, and his beloved twins, Charles and Charlene Thomas. He is also survived by one brother, Harold Thomas; two sisters, Alice Anne Thomas and Deborah Thomas Haigler; six grandchildren, Brittney, Alexis, Charmaya, Davonna, Aliyah and Camron; three great-grandchildren, Spencer, Carter, and Jason; one sister-in-law, Gladys Thomas; a devoted supporter and caregiver, Auther Mae Green; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends. On December 10th, Charles was lovingly welcomed home by his parents and siblings who preceded him in death: Rev. Leroy Thomas Jr., William Thomas, Dorothy Thomas Gordon, Annie Lois Thomas Jenkins, Carolyn Thomas Harris, Myrtle Thomas Brunson, and his sisters-in-law, Sylvia Renee Thomas and Lula Thomas.

A scripture most fitting for Charles’s life is -2 Timothy 4:7:  “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
